Did you think of lighting?

Any great videographer or photographer will be able to capture your big day regardless of the lighting. However, this is one thing many couples neglect to think about when planning their big day. Yes, it effects your wedding video and photos but terrible lighting will also impact how you and your guests experience the wedding day.

This is something you will have to consider during the process of booking your venue. But if you already have a location booked there are things you can do to help too. Here is a list of things to keep in mind to get the lighting to match your wedding mood.

  • Windows - natural light is a great way to illuminate your ceremony. Most venues that cater to weddings specifically keep this in mind and have large windows to let in as much light as possible. Great! However sometimes that can be a challenge. Will your guests be staring into the glaring sun as you exchange vows? Will your bridesmaids have to look at the floor to keep the sun out of their eyes? Just things to think about as you walk through your space.

  • Candles - if your venue is a little dark you can ask about using candles to help light up important areas. The glow from candlelight will add a dash of romance to your area with little effort. Lamps can also be a good option if candles are not permitted.

  • Overhead fluorescents - try to avoid if you can! Having harsh fake lighting directly overhead will cast shadows that are hard to overlook.

This is a small detail so don't stress about it. Remember, with the right professional capturing your day no matter what lighting you're working with you will have great keepsakes.
