5 Things to do Once you're Engaged

Congratulations! You officially have gotten engaged! This is such a thrilling time for you. And in no time, you may feel overwhelmed with the long check lists that pop up once you move from engagement bliss to wedding planning fever. Here are the top five things I think you should focus on first once you say 'Yes' to the ring!

1 - Bask in the Moment

My first tip is to S.L.O.W. down! Now is the time to enjoy this excitement with your love. You may be the only two people who know you've just made a life altering step. Spend some time alone together. Enjoy the feel of your new ring. Admire it. Take some fun pictures to help share the news... later!

2 - Talk with your Fiancé

How well do you know your fiancé (isn't that fun to say?!?) and his thoughts on the big day? If you two have not spent much time chatting about what you each want as far as size, location, theme of your wedding now is a great time to do it. Don't wait until you're well into planning to find out your dream wedding is the opposite of what your man was thinking about. And (unpopular opinion) it is not YOUR special day; it is yours and your future husband's special day. Plan it together will make everyone more invested in the planning, work and fun of getting married!

3 - Start Playing with Dates

Open up your calendar and start looking at dates for the big day. What season would you like to get married? How far out do you need to plan for?

While Saturdays are the most popular day for a wedding ceremony, you may be able to get a great deal with a venue if you book a different day for your event.

4 - Set a Budget

Be honest with yourself on what you're willing to spend on the wedding. Be realistic for your own financial situation. If you have parents that are willing to help pay for aspects of your special day, reach out to them and find out what they have for expectations, so you know exactly what you're working with. From that point you can break down your budget into sections so you can see how much money you have for each part of the day (i.e. the dress, the food, the venue and videographer etc.).

5 - Find a Planning Outline

The best tool I found when I was getting married was a wedding planner that helped outline the steps for planning and kept me on organized. There are so many options online. You can find ones that have timelines, budget percentiles and so much more. I highly recommend taking a little time to find the planning book that works best for you. There are ones you can print out or ones that you may want digital. This may seem too much but worth it (imo).

BONUS - Record Your Love Story

A trend that I love is wedding websites. How many times have I been a guest to a wedding and forgotten the invite with all the event details at home? Too many. But a website let's your guests have access to all the information no matter where they are.

Elevate your website with a love story video that tells people your special story. How did you meet? What makes you two the perfect couple? How did he pop the question? Putting these things together in a video just takes our wedding website to the next level!

Looking for a videographer who can do your engagement video? WELL, GREAT NEWS...I can help you with that!
