3 Tips for Planning your Wedding Day Timeline

When you hire a professional videographer or photographer, she will work with you to create your wedding day timeline. Many couples already have an idea of how they want the day to flow. But your videographer should work with you to layout a clear idea of how long different shots will take and make sure things fall around your ceremony and reception start times.

When I'm consulting with a bride and discussing her timeline for portrait shooting, I let her tell me what she is imagining for her special day. I give feedback to help her understand how long to expect different aspects of the wedding day to take; from getting ready to pulling large groups of family members together for snapshots. I have two big tips I like to share with my nearly-weds.

First, the trend of capturing a "first look" before the ceremony is still popular. The nice thing about this option is it allows time earlier in the day to film bride and groom together. Some couples like to wait to see each other when the brides come down the aisle. This is such a traditional and romantic option, however, this limits the number of photos and clips that can be shot together before the service. In these situations, it is important to manage expectations and have enough time built into the schedule for the necessary poses you desire.

Second tip for wedding day timeline is to schedule in time for just the bride and groom. There are so many loving family and friends surrounding you on this special day it can be overwhelming. You may feel like you barley saw your new spouse throughout the day of becoming man and wife. There is no shame in having your guests wait a little while as you two spend a few quite minutes together. Just be mindful of serving food and vendors that you have lined up for meals.

Finally, in my experience, most things take a little longer than you may have thought on the actual day. You have so many people running around, several last-minute loose ends to tie up that it is common for you to fall behind the schedule. DON'T WORRY! People understand and things can't happen without you. That being said, a good videography/photographer will be watching the clock throughout the day and should try to help keep you on time.

If you can afford to have a wedding coordinator there with you on your special day they are worth their weight in gold. It is so great to be able for you to relax and focus on enjoying and soaking in the memories. If money is a little tight, don't be afraid to type up your timeline, share it with your people. From family, bridal party and the folks you've hired to help make your day run smoothly, give everyone a copy. This helps so you don't have to answer the question, "What's next?" or "When are we doing that?" over and over.

Remember, your wedding day is just one step in your new married life. That is the real timeline to focus on. So, outline your schedule, plan for the best and be flexible when life happens and most of all give yourself, and your fiancé grace if things change.
